Harris Shines in Philadelphia Homecoming; Pistons Claim First Win of the Season
Tobias Harris Powers Pistons to Victory in Philadelphia
Former 76er Tobias Harris made a triumphant return to Philadelphia, delivering an 18-point, 14-rebound performance to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 105-95 victory on Wednesday night. The win marked a welcome turnaround for the Pistons, who had not tasted victory in their first four outings of the new NBA season.
Detroit Pistons’ Revival
After a dismal 14-68 record last season, the Pistons seemed to have found a new lease of life with Harris, who joined them in the offseason after six seasons with the 76ers. His contribution was well-supported by Jaden Ivey, who netted 23 points, and Cade Cunningham and Tim Hardaway Jr., who added 22 and 16 points respectively.
Philadelphia’s Struggles Continue
Despite a 32-point effort from Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers (1-3) struggled to bridge a 21-point deficit in the second half. They sorely missed the presence of All-Star Joel Embiid and Paul George, both out due to left knee issues. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Jared McCain chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the defeat.
Key Turning Point
The 76ers attempted a comeback early in the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run, reducing the deficit to 87-77. However, the Pistons retaliated with a decisive 15-5 run over the next four minutes to regain control of the game.
Breaking the Jinx
The victory was significant for the Pistons, marking the end of an eight-game losing streak against the 76ers. Their last win against Philadelphia dates back to a 102-94 victory in Detroit on March 31, 2022. Their last triumph at the Wells Fargo Center was a 136-106 win on March 4, 2017.
What’s Next?
The Pistons now look forward to hosting the New York Knicks on Friday night, while Philadelphia will be hoping to bounce back when they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night.
